APA is encouraging psychologists to host anxiety disorder screening sites for National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day (NADSD) scheduled for May 2. Freedom from Fear, the nonprofit mental health advocacy group that organizes National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day, will provide screening site hosts with all the materials needed to publicize and conduct the screening. A copy of the APA Practice Directorate's anxiety disorders fact sheet will be included in the materials distributed through the NADSD project.

Last year, more than 50,000 people attended National Anxiety Disorders Screening Day at more than 1,500 screening sites. A follow-up survey conducted by the New York State Psychiatric Institute revealed that 50 percent of the participants indicated that anxiety interfered with their daily lives more than half the time. In addition, the survey found that 51 percent of the screening day participants followed up with treatment for their anxiety and received help.

To obtain a registration form or for more information about the 2001 NADSD, contact Jeanine Christiana at Freedom from Fear, 308 Seaview Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305, or call (718) 351-1717. The deadline for registration is Feb. 14.
