Advancing behavioral science

The Federation of Behavioral, Psychological and Cognitive Sciences, incorporated in 1981, is a dues-supported coalition focused on legislative and regulatory advocacy, education and getting information to scientists.

With executive director Barbara Wanchisen, PhD, and program manager Jill Egeth, PhD, steering its activities, the federation's membership includes 17 organizations, university departments of psychology, schools of education, research centers, regional psychological associations and science divisions of APA.

Among its activities are holding science seminars for congressional and government agency staff and coordinating with government and related organizations to inform federal science policy and gain national support for research. It also runs groups such as the Forum on Research Management, in which government officers and researchers discuss research management issues, and the Animal Research Committee, in which members promote humane care of research animals.
