Both petitions can be read at www.apa.org/crsppp. A 60-day comment and public notice period for each--which began Feb. 1--is required before CRSPPP can consider the petitions. Comments will be accepted through April 2.

Stories, materials wanted on VA service

Recognize a colleague's work on lesbian, gay and bisexual issues

APA's Committee on Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Concerns (CLGBC) seeks candidates for the Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognizes psychologists for significant contributions to the mission of CLGBC. The group's mission is to:

* Study and evaluate how the issues and concerns of lesbian, gay male and bisexual psychologists can be best addressed.

* Encourage objective and unbiased research on lesbian, gay male, and bisexual adults and youth, and on the social impact of such research.

* Examine the consequences of stereotypes about lesbian, gay male, and bisexual adults and youth in clinical practice.

* Develop educational materials for distribution to psychologists.

* Recommend ways to integrate gay, lesbian and bisexual issues into APA activities to further the civil and legal rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual psychologists.

Nominees may have contributed to the mission either through direct CLGBC service or independent work of a scientific, professional, educational, leadership or political nature.

The nomination deadline is May 1. Nominations should include a letter of no more than 500 words that highlights the nominee's achievements, a current curriculum vitae and the names of three people who have been asked to write reference letters. Members of CLGBC and of APA's Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Concerns Program staff are not eligible nominees. Send nomination materials to CLGBC Awards, Public Interest Directorate, at the APA address.
