$20,000 available for serious mental illness research

The American Psychological Foundation (APF) seeks applicants for its second $20,000 Alexander Gralnick Research Investigator Award for exceptional research and mentoring in the area of serious mental illness. The biennial award--which was first presented in 2002--honors the late psychiatrist Alexander Gralnick, MD, who founded the High Point Hospital in Rye, N.Y., in 1951 and acted as chief psychiatrist there for more than 40 years.

Nominees must have a doctoral degree, at least eight years of research experience and an affiliation with an accredited college, university or other research or treatment institution. Nominees must show promise of continuing creativity in serious mental illness research and be mentors to younger investigators. APF encourages nominations that represent diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, age and sexual orientation.

The nomination deadline is April 15. Nominations must contain five copies of: a letter of nomination addressing the award criteria and describing the nominee's accomplishments, mentoring influence and research potential; the nominee's curriculum vitae; and photocopies of two seminal publications.

Apply for the 2004 Levinson award

The American Psychological Foundation requests nominations for the Harry and Miriam Levinson Award for Exceptional Contributions to Consulting Organizational Psychology. The $5,000 award honors an APA member who has demonstrated an exceptional ability to convert psychological theory and concepts into strategies that enable business leaders to create more effective, healthy and humane organizations.

The $5,000 Levinson award is administered by APA's Office of Division Services and Divs. 13 (Society of Consulting Psychology), 14 (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology), and 39 (Psychoanalysis). Representatives from these divisions solicit and review nominations and recommend a winner to APF's Board of Trustees. APF encourages nominations that represent diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, age and sexual orientation.

The nomination deadline is March 15. Self-nominations are welcome. Nominations must include a letter that addresses the nominee's accomplishments and the nominee's curriculum vitae. Nominations must be sent electronically in Microsoft Word or PDF formats with an e-mail cover letter to division@apa.org. The winner will be announced on or after April 15.
