Counseling division active in February

Div. 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) will hold its midyear executive board meeting Feb. 5-6 in San Diego. The meeting will be followed by a daylong retreat on Feb. 7 to address the historical roots of counseling psychology, its current status and the future direction of the profession.

The division will also sponsor a roundtable conference on cross-cultural psychology and education at Teachers College of Columbia University on Feb. 20-21. New pediatric rehabilitation section is here

Div. 22 (Rehabilitation) announces its first new section on Pediatric Rehabilitation Psychology--Section I. The section focuses on:

* Promoting healthy development in children with disabilities through direct psychological services, consultation, advocacy, education and research.

* Providing a prominent voice for the rights of children with disabilities.

* Identifying and addressing risks and other factors that lead to the disablement of children.

Name change for history division

APA's Div. 26 (History) has changed its name to the Society for the History of Psychology.

"By changing the name, we hope that more people who are interested in the history of psychology, both within psychology and in other disciplines, will join the society and will participate in its programs and other activities," says Div. 26 President James L. Pate, PhD.

Division redefines hypnosis

The executive committee of Div. 30 (Society of Psychological Hypnosis) has recently approved a new definition of hypnosis. The site also lists books and journals on hypnosis as well as information on other professional hypnosis organizations.

Nominate an outstanding health psychologist

Div. 38 (Health) seeks nominations for its three annual awards, to be presented at the division's business meeting held during APA's Annual Convention in Honolulu, July 28-Aug. 1. The awards are:

* The Outstanding Contributions to Health Psychology (senior member) award, which honors a health psychology researcher who earned a doctorate more than 10 years ago.

* The Outstanding Contributions to Health Psychology (junior member) award, which honors a health psychology researcher who has earned a doctorate within the past 10 years.

* The Timothy B. Jeffrey Memorial Award, which honors an outstanding clinical health psychologist.

The nomination deadline is April 15. Self-nominations are welcome. For complete application instructions, visit www.health-psych.org.

Media division seeks award nominees

Div. 46 (Media) invites members to nominate candidates for its three 2004 awards. They are:

* The Distinguished Lifetime Contribution to Media Psychology Award, which honors a psychologist who has a "sustained body of work in developing, refining or implementing applications, procedures and methods that have had a major impact on the public and the profession of media psychology."

* The Excellence in Research Contributions to Media Psychology Award, which honors outstanding empirical or theoretical contributions to media psychology. To be eligible, applicants must have earned their doctorate 10 or more years ago.

* The Student Dissertation/Research Award, a $200 stipend for research relating to any form of media including Internet, radio, television, or print research/applications; multimedia telecommunications, virtual reality, distance learning, telehealth and telepsychology services; and product development. The award includes one year of free Div. 46 membership. Applicants must be graduating from a doctoral program and have completed the dissertation between January 2003 and March 2004.

Nominations sought for peace division's award

Div. 48 (Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict and Violence) seeks nominations for the Morton Deutsch Conflict Resolution Award. The $1,000 prize honors a practitioner or researcher who has made notable contributions to the integration of theory and practice in the field of conflict resolution. The nomination deadline is March 15.

Nominations should include a curriculum vitae and a nomination letter of no more than 300 words. The winner will be announced at APA's 2004 Annual Convention in Honolulu, July 28-Aug. 1.
