Association News Review petitions for specialty recognition APA's Commission for the Recognition of Specialties and Proficiencies in Professional Psychology (CRSPPP) has received petitions from the following APA divisions for renewed recognition of their specialties by APA: Clinical psychology, from Div. 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology) School psychology, from Div. 16 (School) Counseling psychology, from Div. 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) Clinical child psychology, from Div. 53 (Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology) Each division's petition can be viewed at www.apa.org/crsppp. A 60-day period of public notice and opportunity for comment--which begins Feb. 1--is required prior to CRSPPP's consideration of the petition. Participate in the half-time internship conference "The Half-Time Internship: Coming Into the Mainstream" conference will take place April 2930 in Berkeley, Calif. The conference will address issues related to half-time internships and develop structures, standards and evaluation guidelines. Conference organizers are seeking applications from all individuals who can contribute to the program's goals. Conference participants may represent graduate programs, internships, training councils, public interest groups or credentialing and regulatory constituency groups. Women and ethnic- and cultural-minority psychologists are encouraged to apply. The deadline to apply is Feb. 12. Submit papers for the 2005 Ethics Prize APA's Ethics Committee and the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) seek submissions for the 2005 Graduate Student Ethics Prize, which recognizes a student paper on psychology and ethics in science or research, practice, education, public interest or theory. The winner will receive $1,000, a round-trip ticket to APA's 2005 Annual Convention in Washington, D.C., August 1821, and three nights of hotel accommodations. Also, the award recipient will present the winning paper at the convention to APA Ethics Committee members for comment, and the paper will be published in the journal Ethics and Behavior. Apply for women in psychology leadership awards The APA Committee on Women in Psychology (CWP) seeks nominations for its 22nd annual Leadership Awards. Through the awards, CWP seeks to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring that women are treated fairly both within psychology and as consumers of psychological services, and that women-related issues continue to be included in psychological research, education, training and practice. Nominees will be identified as "emerging" or "distinguished" leaders in one or more areas of influence:
Service provision. The committee will give emerging leadership awards to psychologists who have received their doctorate within the past 15 years, made a substantial contribution to women in psychology and show promise of an extensive, influential career. Distinguished leadership awards will be presented to psychologists who have worked for 15 years or more after receiving their doctorate, influenced women's issues and are recognized leaders in their area of expertise. All nominations must include a letter of support for the nominee no longer than 500 words, a current curriculum vitae and three letters of reference. Reference letters should address the nominee's leadership activities and contributions to knowledge for, and about, women. The letter should also show how the nominee fosters understanding of women's lives and improves the status of women--and underrepresented populations of women--in psychology and society. Current CWP members, members of APA's Board of Directors, individuals who have announced candidacy for APA president and APA staff are not eligible. CWP members cannot make nominations. Award recipients, selected by CWP in March, will be announced at APA's 2006 Annual Convention, in New Orleans. Nominations and supporting materials must be received by Jan. 31, 2006.
