Apply for Levinson Award honoring consulting psychologists

The American Psychological Foundation (APF) requests nominations for its 2005 Harry and Miriam Levinson Award for Exceptional Contributions to Consulting Organizational Psychology.

The $5,000 award annually honors an APA member who uses psychological theories to create applications that managers can use to make their organizations more healthy, effective and humane.

APA's Office of Division Services and Divs. 13 (Society of Consulting Psychology), 14 (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) and 39 (Psychoanalysis) administer the award. Representatives from the three divisions review nominations and recommend a recipient to the APF Board of Trustees.

Nominations are due March 15. To apply, send a current curriculum vitae and a letter addressing the nominee's relevant accomplishments via e-mail. All nomination materials must be submitted electronically and include a cover e-mail note. Self-nominations are welcome, and APF encourages applications from individuals who represent a diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, age and sexual orientation. APA Div. 16 (School) and APF are seeking applications for the 2006 Paul H. Henkin Student Travel Award. Up to two $500 travel awards will be provided to student members of Div. 16 to attend APA's 2006 Annual Convention, Aug. 10–13, in New Orleans.

Award winners can use the funds for convention registration, lodging and transportation costs, but not for food, drink, supplies or other expenses. APF and Div. 16 will consider applicants' demonstrated potential to make an outstanding contribution to the field of school psychology, accomplishments and research, communication skills, community involvement, commitment to working in public schools, and evidence of knowledge of the demands of the field of school psychology and the value of continuing professional development.

The deadline for applications is April 15. To apply, send four sets of the applications materials–the application form, a letter of recommendation, a 500-word essay and a curriculum vitae–to 2006 Div. 16 APF-Paul Henkin Student Travel Award Committee, c/o Tanya L. APF is accepting applications for the 2006 David International Travel Award and the 2006 David Research in Human Reproductive Behavior and Related Population Studies Award. The awards, made possible through an APF donation by Henry P. David, PhD, support young psychologists with a demonstrated interest in human reproductive behavior or an area related to population concerns. APA's Office of International Affairs administers the award.

The research award provides $1,500 for research in human reproductive behavior or related population studies. The travel award provides up to $1,500 to participate in an international or regional congress, with preference for applicants who intend to present. Applicants may apply for one or both awards.

Eligible applicants are those carrying out dissertation research or who hold a PhD, PsyD or EdD with no more than five years postgraduate experience. The awards are open to applicants from any country and in all relevant disciplines, though APF prefers those with a psychological approach or in the discipline of psychology. The application deadline is March 6.

APF is accepting nominations for the third biennial Alexander Gralnick Research Investigator Award. This $20,000 award recognizes exceptional researchers and mentors in the area of serious mental illness. Areas of focus can include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and delusional disorder.

Nominees must have a doctoral degree and be affiliated with an accredited college, university or research/treatment institution. Nominees must also hold a record of significant research productivity for at least eight years, provide evidence of continuing creativity in the area of serious mental illness research and show their involvement in training and developing young investigators.

Nomination packages must contain five copies of: a letter of nomination addressing the award criteria and describing the nominee's accomplishments, potential future contributions and mentoring influence; curriculum vitae; and two seminal publications.
