In December, APA convened a group of world experts to identify and discuss ethical issues arising when psychologists respond to international humanitarian emergencies.

During its 2.5-day meeting, the group discussed how language, culture and local social and political contexts influence psychologists' ability to intervene in helpful and affirming ways and to conduct research that is respectful of the affected populations.

They also identified some of the unique ethical issues posed when psychologists work outside their own country and culture.

The group highlighted how the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct relates to this work, and proposed developing informational resources for APA members.
