Gittler donates $250,000
Joseph B. Gittler, PhD, a distinguished scholar, poet and musician who died in 2005, left a $250,000 bequest to APF. Gittler's gift will fund an annual APF award that honors outstanding research on the philosophical foundations of psychological knowledge.
Gittler earned his PhD in sociology and philosophy from the University of Chicago. He served on the faculty at the University of Georgia, Duke University, Iowa State University and George Mason University. He also served as graduate dean at Ferkauf Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor and chair of the department of sociology at the University of Rochester. As a Fulbright scholar, Gittler studied at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel and Hiroshima University in Japan.
