APA will co-sponsor the 16th National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect, "Protecting Children, Promoting Healthy Families and Preserving Communities," April 16-21 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.
The Center for Improvement of Child and Family Services at the Portland State University Graduate School of Social Work will host the conference, which is sponsored by the Children's Bureau of the U.S. Department of Human and Health Services' Administration for Children and Families. Along with APA, other co-sponsors include the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Child Welfare League of America, the American Public Health Association and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The conference will feature interactive educational sessions, workshops, skill seminars and roundtables. A series of pre-conference seminars held on the 16th and 17th will cover such topics as medical evaluation of abuse for non-medical professionals, selection and seduction methods used by child molesters and parent-teacher partnerships to prevent child abuse and neglect.
