PTSD
A unique training program
Print version: page 45

The congressionally funded Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) program initiated through APA's advocacy efforts is unique in that it not only treats service members or their families, but also trains mental health professionals to better care for the deployment-related mental health needs of these populations.

Headquartered at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, with satellite sites at each of the 10 military medical centers that house APA-accredited psychology internship programs, CDP has developed a two-week intensive training course, which includes best practices for treating PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and post-deployment problems.

CDP will also engage in independent and collaborative research efforts to document the deployment-related needs of service members and their families, as well as interventions aimed at addressing these needs.
