If so, the American Psychological Association would like to honor your service at a public ceremony during a session of the Council of Representatives to be held on Sunday, August 26, in San Francisco.
As American psychologists had done in previous American wars, hundreds of clinical psychologists during the Vietnam War gave much-needed and very effective care to the millions of military personnel and their families who were entitled to receive medical care from military facilities. Some of those clients also needed, and continued to get, more help in the years after the war. Hundreds of other psychologists provided important research and consultative services. These services were of great value but, regrettably, it is no longer possible to identify each of the psychologists whose work deserved recognition and praise. Fortunately, however, it does seem possible to identify and recognize the much smaller number of APA members who actually served as psychologists in Vietnam.
Since no listing of those who served in Vietnam is available, eligible APA members are asked to identify themselves.
You are eligible for this recognition if: (1) you served in uniform and were awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, or (2) you served as a civilian for 30 consecutive days or a total of 60 non-consecutive days.
It is important to identify as many as possible of those who deserve recognition, so the following actions are requested:
If you served, nominate yourself. If you know of others who served, nominate them. If you know of someone who served but has since died, nominate that person and provide any information you can about a next of kin who can receive the recognition.
Information about each nominee can be sent to the President of the Division of Military Psychology, Dr. Laurence, and also to the Division coordinator for this project, Dr. Nichols.

Mailing address
Status in Vietnam: Military (give final rank), civil services, contractor, other (specify)
Role: clinical, consultant, researcher, other
Year/month when Vietnam service began and ended
Phone number, Fax number, E-mail address
Next of kin information if nominee is deceased
Please send nominations to both of them so your input can be processed even if one of them is temporarily absent. They will consolidate the information and forward it to APA, which will prepare the citations and arrange the award ceremonies. At a later date, names of recipients will be published in the American Psychologist.
