Stop by the APAGS suite during convention
The American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) invites everyone--not just APAGS members--to enjoy its programs at APA's 2002 Annual Convention in Chicago, Aug. 22-25. APAGS is offering 17 hours of programming.
Session titles include:
* "Experiential approaches to transforming vicarious traumatization."
* "Multicultural supervision: central issues and practical strategies."
* "The secrets to surviving graduate school: strategies for diverse populations."
* "Essential knowledge about sister professions: medicine, law and grant-writing."

Committee on Disability Issues seeks members
APA's Committee on Disability Issues in Psychology (CDIP) seeks nominations for two new members to begin three-year terms on Jan. 1.
CDIP recommends, influences, develops and advocates on issues, activities and policies related to the equitable treatment of psychologists and others with disabilities. Its mission is to promote the psychological well-being of people with disabilities; promote the inclusion of knowledge about disabilities and disability issues in education, training programs, policies and professional development of psychologists; promote the development and implementation of psychological service delivery modes responsive to the needs of people with disabilities; and to promote awareness of disability in psychological research as well as specific research activity in disability areas.
The committee seeks psychologists with disability-related academic, clinical or research expertise and with knowledge of APA governance. A strong priority will be given to applicants who have a disability (visible, invisible or due to a chronic health condition or injury) or personal experience with disability. CDIP also welcomes applications from individuals who identify themselves as members of multiple minority groups. Nominations are open to APA members who are retired or employed less than full time.
CDIP members are required to attend committee meetings in Washington, D.C., with expenses reimbursed by APA. Members are expected to work on projects between meetings and are encouraged to attend APA's Annual Convention at their own expense.
Nomination materials must be received by Aug. 16, and should include a curriculum vitae, a letter indicating a willingness to serve and a description of your personal and/or professional experience with disability. Please forward materials to Anju Khubchandani at the APA address or via e-mail.
Join the Committee on Women in Psychology
APA's Committee on Women in Psychology (CWP) seeks nominations for two new members to begin terms in January.
The committee makes recommendations on policies and activities affecting women to APA governance as well as to Div. 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women) and other relevant groups. Committee members' duties also include collecting information regarding the status of women and developing ways to increase women's participation in psychology.
CWP seeks candidates with demonstrated interest and experience in women's issues to serve a three-year term beginning in January and ending in December 2005. Nominees must be full APA members.
CWP is committed to full diversity in representation and to ensuring the representation of all constituencies within APA. Areas of expertise are divided among the members. For this term's slate, CWP seeks at least one member active in a nonacademic setting such as practice, community-based or government or other public service. CWP seeks to fill at least one position with an ethnic-minority psychologist.
Selected members will be required to attend at least one committee meeting a year in Washington, D.C., with expenses reimbursed according to APA guidelines for travel and reimbursement. Committee members also work on CWP priorities between meetings, including regular conference calls. If possible, members attend a CWP meeting at their own expense held during APA's Annual Convention.
Nomination materials should include the nominee's qualifications, a letter from the nominee indicating willingness to serve on CWP and a current curriculum vitae. Self-nominations are also encouraged and nominations are open to members who are retired or employed less than full time. Nominations and supporting materials should be sent by Sept. 2 to Stephanie Olmstead-Dean, APA Women's Programs Office, at the APA address or by e-mail.
Work on continuing professional education issues
APA's Continuing Professional Education Committee (CPEC) is in search of four new members to begin three-year terms on Jan. 1. Members are required to attend committee meetings in Washington, D.C., with expenses reimbursed by APA. Members also work on committee projects between meetings.
CPEC develops policy and program recommendations for the association's continuing professional education (CE) program, working collaboratively with APA's Office of Continuing Professional Education. The committee's tasks include developing and delivering CE programs and products; providing educational and technical assistance to APA directorates, divisions, state associations and other sponsors; collaborating with organizations that want to become APA-approved sponsors; providing review of all sponsors and organizations seeking APA sponsor approval; and identifying, promoting, implementing and evaluating research, development and innovations in CE.
CPEC aims to assemble and maintain a diverse and broad group of psychologists. It encourages nominations from individuals who are committed to the concept of lifelong learning, with knowledge of or background in neuropsychology, health psychology and practice-related issues.
The deadline for submissions is Sept. 6. Nominations consisting of the nominee's curriculum vitae and a letter stating the individual's interest in serving should be submitted to Karen Kanefield, CPE Office, at the APA address, or (202) 336-5988.
Members wanted forthe Committee on Aging
APA's Committee on Aging (CONA) seeks nominations of those with substantive professional specialization in aging issues to serve a three-year term beginning January and ending December 2005.
CONA's mission is to advance psychology as a science and profession and as a means of promoting health and human welfare by ensuring that older adults, especially the growing numbers of older women and minorities, receive the association's attention.
Those selected will be required to attend one committee meeting a year in Washington, D.C., with expenses reimbursed by APA. Members are also expected to work on committee priorities between meetings and encouraged to attend a CONA meeting held during APA's Annual Convention at their own expense.
Nomination materials must be sent by Aug. 30 and should include the nominee's qualifications, a letter from the nominee indicating willingness to serve on CONA and a current vitae. Letters of support from other APA governance groups, divisions and state psychological associations as well as from other groups or organizations will also be accepted. Nominations are open to all Members including those who are retired or employed less than full time.

Become a regional trainer on HIV/AIDS issues
APA's HIV Office for Psychology Education (HOPE) seeks doctoral-level psychologists to become regional HIV/AIDS continuing-education (CE) trainers.
Trainers receive "state-of-the-science" training materials at the HOPE National Training Conference (NTC) in Dallas, Feb. 27- March 2, and, as part of APA, can offer CE credits to program participants.
HOPE asks trainers to train at least 30 colleagues within three years after attending the conference and completing the new four-part, four-hour, HIV online CE training. APA awards CE credit for completion of both the NTC and the online training.

Celebrate 10 years of promoting the teaching of high school psychology
On Friday, Aug. 23, the executive committee of the Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS) is celebrating its 10th anniversary of providing resources and services to psychology instructors in secondary schools throughout the United States and worldwide.
