Candidates for APA President

  • What specific psychological science initiatives would you promote during your presidential year?

I believe we must build alliances between APS and other psychological science organizations to coordinate public policy efforts and cooperate on projects of mutual interest. The dual membership dues discount should continue. I would promote efforts for early-career scientists to focus on clinical issues, particularly in areas of prevention and on problems of diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology.

Additionally, I believe that the development of a high school text in psychology, with emphasis on psychological science, is an important project for the association to pursue.

  • How would you enhance financial resources for the APA Practice Organization?

The organization should continue to develop materials, tool-kits and information packets for the benefit of practitioners. In addition, the organization should provide information brochures for the public that practitioners would purchase.

Group practices of psychologists could be asked to contribute a portion of their income to the organization in recognition of the benefits provided. Independent practitioners, including part-time clinicians, could be given suggested levels of voluntary contributions, over and above the annual request on the dues statement.
