Candidates for APA President

The five candidates for APA's 2006 president are answering two questions in each issue of the June through September issues of the Monitor to give APA members more information about their candidacies. The psychologist elected will serve as 2005 president-elect, 2006 president and 2007 past-president.

APA will mail the ballots to members on Oct. 15, and the election will close on Nov. 29. For biographical information on each candidate and the candidates' election statements, see the May Monitor.

Questions:

  • To what extent do you believe that there is a gap between clinical research and real-world practice? If there is such a gap, what do you believe accounts for it, and what do you think should be done to address it?

  • Given the recent adoption of the Multicultural Guidelines by APA and the role of psychologists as change agents, how do you envision using the guidelines to promote psychology's interests in public policy at the local, state and national level?
