APA calls for more research funding

Executive Director for Science Richard McCarty, PhD, presented testimony on behalf of APA to two U.S. House of Representatives appropriations subcommittees during April. Before the Subcommittees on Labor-Health and on Human Services and Education he spoke in support of increased funding for the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

McCarty's presentation took place the day after the school shooting at Littleton, Colo., and he answered questions about APA's work on youth violence. He also testified to the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies, urging that increased funds be provided to the National Science Foundation, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and research at the Veterans Health Service.
