Ryan, for her dissertation, "The development of young adolescent achievement beliefs and behaviors: the role of the peer group and classroom context."
The award recipient receives a recognition plaque, acceptance to present the dissertation at the next APA Annual Convention and a $500 stipend.
Nominees must be members or affiliates of Div. 15. Applicants who are not members or affiliates may apply for membership when submitting nomination materials.
Deadline: Dec. 1. Contact: Maria Pennock-Roman, PhD, Department of Educational and School Psychology and Special Education, 232 CEDAR Building, Penn State University, University Park, PA 16802-3109; (814) 865-4368; fax: (814) 863-1002.
Div. 38 (Health)
Div. 38 announces the launch of a mentoring program that will serve as a network for students, faculty and professionals interested in health psychology to establish collaborative relationships. In addition, board-certified psychologists can be linked to graduates applying for American Board of Professional Psychology membership.
For information, go to the division Web site: www.health-psych.org.
Div. 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues)
Div. 45 congratulates its Student Committee for a successful first year. The Student Committee, led by Boston University graduate student Lawrence Yang, grew out of an e-mail dialogue about how the division can better serve student affiliates, which make up 26 percent of the division's membership.
Last year, at the behest of Yang and several student affiliates, the Executive Committee simultaneously approved a student position on the governing board and the establishment of a student committee to voice student concerns nationwide.
By 2002, Yang hopes the committee will create a "student corner" section in division publications and a listserv, act as an advisory board regarding student issues and act as a liaison to other minority student groups.
