APAs 2006 Annual
Convention will once again offer cross-cutting programs
sponsored by three or more APA divisions. The groups
voluntarily collaborated to propose these innovative,
cross-cutting programs, which were evaluated and accepted by
the APA Board of Convention Affairs Central Programming
Working Group based on criteria such as the programs
originality, relevance to division and APA members, and overall
quality. The 2006 cross-cutting programs are:
Assessing
Capacity in Older Adults, Friday, Aug. 11, co-sponsored
by Divs. 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology), 20 (Adult
Development and Aging) and 41 (American Psychology-Law
Society). This symposium seeks to provide an understandable
conceptual framework, clear practice resources and relevant
clinical knowledge to clinical psychologists, gerontologists,
lawyers and family members who address issues of capacity with

Integrated Treatment: The Intersection of Addiction,
Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation, Friday, Aug. 11,
co-sponsored by Divs. 22 (Rehabilitation), 28 (Psychopharmacology
and Substance Abuse), 40 (Clinical Neuropsychology) and 50
(Addictions). This symposium aims to define the problems of and
identify the best leads on how to treat persons of all ages with
substance use disorders and cognitive impairments. It will include
discussions of problem definition, neuropsychological assessment,
innovative translational research, novel interventions and

Diversity into Psychology: Challenge, Initiative and

for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues). This
symposium presents interdivisional efforts to promote and
infuse cultural diversity into psychology, including the application of
multicultural competence into psychological practice, culturally
competent work with immigrant populations and ethical
