Division spotlight Apply for Div. 9 experienced scholars grant Div. 9 (Society for the Psychological Study of Social IssuesSPSSI) is seeking applications for its SPSSI Action Grant for Experienced Scholars, or SAGES program. The division created SAGES to encourage retirement-age psychologists to apply their knowledge to helping solve social problems or to assisting policy-makers in solving social problems. The program invites proposals that aim to use social science research findings to address social problems through direct action projects, consulting with not-for-profit groups or preparing reviews of existing social science literature that could be used by policy-makers. Apply for Div. 53 awards and mentoring program Div. 53 (Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology) is seeking applicants for three research grant programs: Public Sector Mental Health Services for Children and Families Grant. One grant for up to $5,000 is available for innovative clinical research by a clinical child psychologist whose primary post is outside of academe. Grant for Research in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Two awards for up to $2,500 are available for doctoral students enrolled in APA-approved clinical psychology training programs and one $5,000 grant is available for a postdoctoral fellow. Applicants must be planning academic careers in child and adolescent mental health. The grants fund empirical studies on methods of assessment, prevention or treatment, or on issues related to the psychopathology of children or adolescents. Career Awards in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. The division will present two research awards, with up to $750 available for travel to APAs 2007 Annual Convention in San Francisco, Aug. 1619, to present an invited address. One is slated for an early-career faculty researcher and one for a mid-career researcher. Outstanding Training Program Award. The award recognizes excellence in the education of clinical child and adolescent psychology, specifically programs that have demonstrated a commitment to training in developmental psychopathology and evidence-based treatments for psychopathology in childhood and adolescence. Students in doctoral programs, predoctoral internships and postdoctoral programs with a formal training curriculum in clinical child and adolescent psychology, as well as faculty and alumni are welcome to nominate their training program. The program selected for the 2007 honor will be announced at the Div. 53 award ceremony during APAs 2007 Annual Convention in San Francisco, Aug. 1720. Nominations should include a letter of no more than three pages describing the programs training goals, techniques and outcomes, and any additional useful information. The letter should also include the number of faculty and students involved in the program as well as the number who are currently active members of Div. 53. The deadline for all grants and awards is March 1, 2007. The division is also seeking applications for its junior faculty mentoring and development program. Up to three clinical child psychologists in their first three years of full-time work in academe will be selected in 2007 to participate. APAs newest division, Div. 56 (Trauma), is seeking members interested in the psychology of traumatic stress. The divisions goal is to advance research, advocacy, practice and training on trauma and disaster psychology. Div. 56 welcomes all psychologists and other mental health professionals who have an interest in trauma psychology. The division also welcomes graduate student affiliates.
