Officials involved with DATOS, a project initiated in 1990 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, has launched this site to publicize the findings of the study on drug abuse.

The web site provides descriptive and historical information about the project, which has a baseline data set of more than 10,000 adult clients who entered drug-abuse treatment programs between 1991 and 1993.

So far, DATOS researchers have found, among other discoveries, a marked decrease in the number and variety of services that clients report receiving and a rise in suicide ideation and criminal behavior among addicts compared with their counterparts in the 1970s and 1980s.

The site also contains bibliographies, abstracts, data charts and summaries of recent findings. Conference presentations, posters and symposia also are highlighted.
