Attention aspiring academics: a primer on entering the professoriate

What is the 'right' academic job, and what does it take to land it? In conjunction with two conventions this spring, APA will host workshops designed to introduce graduate students and postdocs to the academic career.

Topics range from how academic culture varies across institutions to pragmatics of the hiring process. Accomplished panelists will share their insights, with plenty of opportunity for discussion. The Society for Research in Child Development workshop will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Wednesday, April 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 19, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The Midwestern Psychological Association workshop will be held at Chicago's Palmer House, Wednesday May 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The workshops are free. Please send an e-mail indicating your or your proteges' intent to attend to Nancy K. Dess.
