At the end of 2001, the American Psychological Foundation was pleased to announce that its Placek Fund had supported 14 large grant applications since it gave the first grant in 1995, representing $341,000 in direct research support.
The Placek Fund supports research designed to increase public understanding of gay men and lesbians so that the prejudice they experience might be alleviated now and in future generations. Grants are awarded annually in two main categories, Wayne F. Placek Research Grants for large grants of up to $40,000 each and Wayne F. Placek Small Grants for grants of up to $5,000 each.
The fund has also supported almost $30,000 in investigator development grants and $59,000 in small grants. These awards represent a total of almost $430,000 in direct support, with applicants' universities contributing nearly $63,000 in additional matching funds.
