APA officials met with new National Institutes of Health (NIH) director Elias Zerhouni, MD, at NIH headquarters in January to discuss ways NIH and APA can work together on issues such as translating research to practice and enhancing the public's knowledge of behavior and health. Participants representing APA were CEO Norman B. Anderson, PhD, Executive Director for Science Kurt Salzinger, PhD, Associate Executive Director for Science Merry Bullock, PhD, and Pat Kobor, senior science policy analyst. NIH representatives were Zerhouni, Raynard Kington, MD, PhD, director of the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR), Virginia Cain, PhD, deputy director of OBSSR, and Ruth Kirschstein, PhD, NIH deputy director.
