Learn about the beginnings of community psychology
Div. 27 (Society for Community Research and Action) announces the availability of "Exemplars of Community Psychology," a two-DVD set that features interviews with 17 founders of community psychology. Included on the program are Jack Glidewell, PhD, George Fairweather, PhD, Emory Cowen, PhD, George Albee, PhD, Marie Jahoda, PhD, Steve Goldston, PhD, Bob Newbrough, PhD, Seymour Sarason, PhD, Murray Levine, PhD, Will Edgerton, PhD, Rudy Moos, PhD, Jim Kelly, PhD, Don Klein, PhD, Stan Schneider, PhD, Ira Iscoe, PhD, and Stephanie Riger, PhD.
Interviewees describe how they contributed to the founding of the field, the social and political context of the 1960s, when the field developed, and the 1965 Swampscott Conference on the Education of Psychologists for Community Mental Health, which is considered by many to be the "founding moment" for the field of community psychology. Join Div. 45 student committee
Div. 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues) encourages graduate students interested in ethnic-minority issues to join the division's student committee. The committee discusses cross-cultural issues and multicultural research, addresses concerns for ethnic-minority students and provides opportunities for professional development. Media division seeks award nominees
Div. 46 (Media) invites members to nominate candidates for its three 2004 awards. They are:
* The Distinguished Lifetime Contribution to Media Psychology Award, which honors a psychologist who has "a sustained body of work in developing, refining, and implementing applications, procedures and methods that have had a major impact on the public and the profession of media psychology."
* The Excellence in Research Contributions to Media Psychology Award, which honors outstanding empirical or theoretical contributions to media psychology. To be eligible, applicants must have earned their doctorate 10 or more years ago.
* The Student Dissertation/Research Award, a $200 stipend for research relating to any form of media including: Internet, radio, television or print research/applications; multimedia telecommunications; virtual reality; distance learning; telehealth services; and product development. The award includes one year of free Div. 46 membership. Applicants must be graduating from a doctoral program and have completed the dissertation between January 2003 and March 2004.

Div. 52 (International) continues to recruit members and students interested in cross-cultural practice, research and teaching. The division has more than 800 members throughout 37 countries. Potential members can check out Div. 52 activities at the upcoming Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) meeting, to be held in Washington, D.C., April 15-18. The meeting will feature presentations by division leaders on the United Nations and the future of international psychology as well as an international conversation hour for students.
