Div. 1 seeks award nominations, publishes newsletter

Div. 1 (Society for General Psychology) seeks nominations for the following awards:

The William James Award for an outstanding general psychology book.

The Arthur Staats Award for a psychologist who has delivered an outstanding general psychology lecture.

The Ernest R. Hilgrad Award for career-long achievements in general psychology.

The George A. Miller Award for an outstanding article in general psychology.

Div. 1 also released its annual online newsletter in December. The newsletter, located at www.apa.org/divisions/div1/news/Fall2003/TGPFall2003.pdf, features articles on new APA divisions, Ray Corsini, PhD, Psi Chi and China.


Div. 19 seeks nominations

Div. 19 (Society for Military Psychology) seeks nominations for the following awards:

The Robert M. Yerkes Award for significant contributions to military psychology by a nonpsychologist.

The John C. Flanagan Lifetime Achievement Award for career-long achievements in military psychology research, service, product development or administration.

The Charles S. Gersoni Military Psychology Award for outstanding contributions to military psychology. Contributions can be in the form of military psychology research, service, product development or administration.

The Arthur W. Melton Early Achievement Award for achievements within five to 10 years of entry into the field of military psychology. Contributions can be in the form of military psychology research, service, product development or administration.

Nominations are due April 19. To make a nomination, send a 300- to 500-word statement that identifies the award and describes the aspects of the nominee's work that support the nomination. Also include a brief biography of the nominee. Send materials to Paul T. Div. 24 changes its name

In December, Div. 24 changed its name from the Division of Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology to the Society for Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology.


Attend Div. 27's 10th biennial conference

Div. 27 (Society for Community Research and Action) will hold its 10th Biennial Conference at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, June 9–12. The theme of the conference is "40 Years Post-Swampscott: Community Psychology in Global Perspective."

Through several conference sessions, the division plans to create a vision for the future of community research and action.

Peace and Conflict devotes issue to Ralph K. White

The final 2004 issue of Peace and Conflict: Journal of Peace Psychology (Vol. 10, No. 4), the journal of Div. 48 (Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict and Violence), is devoted to Ralph K. White, PhD, a pioneer in peace and political psychology.

The journal contains a biographical account of White's life, written by Michael Wessells, PhD, Susan McKay, PhD, and Micheal Roe, PhD, as well as articles on topics related to White's career by such psychologists as M. Brewster Smith, PhD, Herbert Kelman, PhD, and David Winter, PhD. An essay by the 97-year-old White is also in the issue.


Div. 52 debuts new Web site

Div. 52 (International) unveiled a new Web site in January, www.internationalpsychology.net.

The site features international psychology news, awards and publications. It also includes PsyChat translation software and a listserv used by graduate students and psychologists to discuss research and share ideas and personal interests.


Div. 52 offers symposia at March meeting

At the 2005 Eastern Psychological Association meeting in Boston, March 11–12, Div. 52 officers will offer a series of seven symposia on cross-cultural and international students, organizations, research, teaching, positive psychology and families. Apply for Div. 55 awards

Div. 55 (American Society for the Advancement of Pharmacotherapy) is soliciting nominations for outstanding contributions to the prescriptive authority movement. The division will present three awards.

The Outstanding Contribution at the State Level Award will be judged on a member's sustained history of excellence in advancing the prescriptive authority agenda. Nominations should detail accomplishments in measurable terms, such as introduction of legislation, papers or presentations at meetings or organization of advocacy groups. Nominees must be members or fellows of Div. 55.

The Outstanding National Contribution Award will be judged on a member's sustained excellence in advancing the prescriptive authority agenda on a national level, such as the successful passage of prescriptive authority legislation in a state or other jurisdiction or sustained advocacy on a national level. Nominees must be members or fellows of Div. 55.

The Patrick H. DeLeon Prize, established in 2002, is annually awarded to graduate students or early-career psychologists for an outstanding paper, thesis or dissertation in the areas of either clinical psychopharmacology or prescriptive authority. Reviewers will consider submissions with multiple authors, however, the applicant must be the first author on the paper submitted. The prize carries a $500 award. Nominees do not need to be affiliates or members of Div. 55, however, membership is encouraged.
