During a special evening reception at the Fourth National Multicultural Conference and Summit, seven psychologists were honored for their longtime leadership in and commitment to multicultural psychology and were named "elders of the profession."

APA President Ronald F. Levant, EdD, also gave each elder honoree a presidential citation. Honored as elders were:

Oliva Espin, PhD, professor emerita, department of women's studies, San Diego State University and the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University; Allen E. Ivey, EdD, professor emeritus, University of Massachusetts Amherst; Robert V. Guthrie, PhD, adjunct professor of psychology, San Diego State University; Felicisima C. Serafica, PhD, professor emerita, department of psychology, Ohio State University; Bernice Lott, PhD, professor emerita, psychology and women's studies, University of Rhode Island; Donald R. Atkinson, PhD, professor emeritus, counseling, clinical and school psychology program, University of California, Santa Barbara, and Reginald L. Jones, PhD, professor emeritus, University of California, Berkeley, and Hampton University.
