PROGRAMS

APA's Div. 49 (Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy) is accepting submissions on dissertations completed in 1998 that examine any research or data analyzing groups and group study. Applicants should submit a brief summary (five typed double-spaced pages) detailing their research. The winner receives $200, a plaque and membership to Div. 49. The Professional Examination Service (PES) requests applications from doctoral students who have completed 30 credit hours toward their degree for its Annual Doctoral Fellowship Award in Applied Measurement. PES welcomes topics involving test validity, standard testing, test fairness/bias, technology and testing, and other research areas. Application materials must include a complete resume, a copy of a research report written by candidate, a three- to four-page proposal describing the topic and methodology that will be used, and a letter of recommendation from the dissertation adviser confirming student's research and doctoral status. The deadline for submission is March 31. The Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment, a nonprofit organization, welcomes nominations for the Dissertation Research Award. The institute will award $1,000 to several doctoral students for work that bridges the gap between scientific knowledge and public policy in order to reduce violence and to help victims of violence. Candidates must have their dissertation proposal approved by their dissertation committee before applying for the award. To enter, send four copies of the following: a one- to two-page cover letter explaining your suggested project and budget, a curriculum vitae, and a letter of recommendation from a dissertation advisor. The application deadline is April 1. Nicole Moss, a graduate student from Syracuse University, is accepting submissions from children and adult children with a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered parent for a new book. Moss hopes to provide a way for the children and adult children to connect and find support by expressing themselves through poems, essays, short stories, paintings, drawings, photographs and collages. All artwork must be camera ready. The deadline for entries is April 1.
