State Leadership Conference
The following awards were presented during the APA's Annual State Leadership Conference to recognize the tireless work of legislators and psychologists on behalf of the field:
The APA Practice Organization's Outstanding Leadership Award: Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.), for his unwavering support for mental health parity, as evidenced by his sponsorship of the 1996 Mental Health Parity Act and the 2001 Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act.
The Committee of State Leaders' 2001 State Leadership Awards:
Ruth U. Paige, PhD, and Ronald F. Levant, EdD, in recognition for their many contributions to state and provincial associations, including their work on the modified wildcard amendment which allows every state and province to have a vote on the APA Council of Representatives, starting next year.
Div. 31 (State Psychological Association Affairs) Awards:
Outstanding Psychological Association staff member: Lorryn Wahler, executive director of the New Jersey Psychological Association, for her and her staff's accomplishments over the years, including their work with the Sept. 11 crisis in New Jersey.
Outstanding State, Provincial or Territorial Psychological Association: New Hampshire Psychological Association, for outstanding programs and services for its members.
The APA Practice Organization's Federal Advocacy Coordinator Awards:
Susan Chandler, PhD, in California, and James K. Madison, PhD, in Nebraska. Both Chandler and Madison were praised for developing strong relationships with congressional members.
