Div. 32 updates its guide to graduate study
The sixth edition of the Directory of Graduate Programs in Humanistic-Transpersonal Psychology, co-sponsored by Div. 32 (Humanistic), is now available online at www.westga.edu/~psydept/humanisticdirectory. The directory lists graduate psychology programs that emphasize humanistic or transpersonal psychology and provides each school's contact information, degree programs, courses, tuition, admission requirements and mission statement. The sixth edition also provides Web links for humanistic and transpersonal psychology education associations and councils. To suggest new programs to add to the directory, e-mail editors Mike Arons, PhD, at marons@westga.edu or Andrew Bland at andrewbland@hotmail.com.
In addition, the Div. 32 triannual journal, The Humanistic Psychologist, has absorbed the journal Methods: A Journal for Human Science, which had been published by Western Human Science Institute, a Dallas-based nonprofit organization.
With its larger audience, The Humanistic Psychologist will become a quarterly publication. While Larry M. Leitner, PhD, will remain its editor, former 15-year Methods editor Scott Churchill, PhD, will edit the additional issue of the Div. 32 journal each year. Academic journal publisher Lawrence Erlbaum Associates Inc. will assume the journal's publication from Div. 32 in 2005.
Get quality programming and reduced rates at Div. 35 convention suite
Div. 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women) and the Association for Women in Psychology (AWP) are co-sponsoring programming for graduate students at APA's 2004 Annual Convention in Honolulu, July 28-Aug.1.
The groups will hold several student-oriented events in the Div. 35 Hospitality Suite that offer networking opportunities, such as informal conversation hours and a series of student mentoring events on topics that include:
* Developing your private practice, which will cover issues facing women in private practice, how to get licensed and how to plan and market your practice.
* How to succeed in academe, which will cover getting an academic job, overcoming barriers in academe, research and publishing, reviewing articles for journals, conducting qualitative research and a "meet the authors" event.
* Leadership and activism, which will cover community and international activism as well as getting involved in AWP, Div. 35 and APA governance.
Div. 35 and AWP also seek students to volunteer as greeters in the Hospitality Suite in exchange for reduced room rates. For more information on the suite and a schedule of its events, visit www.apa.org/divisions/div35/mentorevents.html. To receive more information on volunteering, visit www.apa.org/divisions/div35/suitesched.htm or contact Ann Nikolai Houston, PhD, at annnikolai@earthlink.net.
Sports division gives back to community
Div. 47 (Exercise and Sport) will host its second annual "Give sport psychology away-athon" at APA's 2004 Annual Convention in Honolulu, July 28-Aug. 1. The program will offer free sport psychology services, including workshops and lectures, to local sports groups, athletes and coaches.
Division leaders are finalizing the details of the giveaway-athon, but upcoming events will include a workshop led by Dan Gould, PhD, for a variety of local sports coaches, sports psychologists speaking to runners and tennis players and the division working with a local sailing group in Honolulu.
For the latest schedule and program information on the giveaway-athon, visit the Div. 47 Web site at www.apa47.org.
International division offers half-price student rate
Students interested in cross-cultural psychology can join Div. 52 (International) for just $10. The one-year membership gives students access to chat rooms that use live translations--so psychologists who speak different languages can converse--and a subscription to the division's triannual newsletter, the International Psychology Reporter. For additional information, visit the Div. 52 Web site at http://orgs.tamu-commerce.edu/div52.
