Candidates for APA President
APA members have nominated five psychologists to run for APA's presidency. The successful candidate will serve as 2006 president-elect, 2007 president and 2008 past-president.
The presidential candidates and the number of nominating votes they received are:
Katherine C. Nordal, PhD
2,516 votes
Sharon Stephens Brehm, PhD
1,824 votes
Thomas J. Vaughn, PhD
14 votes
Stephen A. Ragusea, PsyD
9 votes
J. Bruce Overmier, PhD
4 votes
APA mailed the presidential nomination ballots to all APA voting members on Feb. 1. The nominations closed on March 18. The ballots were tabulated by Intelliscan Inc. and certified by APA's Election Committee.
As we are sure readers have noticed, there is a large disparity in the number of nominations received between the first two nominees and the last three. The Elections Committee would like to inform the membership that three candidates who qualified for the nomination slate later withdrew. These withdrawals may have contributed to the disparity in the number of nominations.
Election ballots will be sent to APA members on Oct. 14, and the election will close on Nov. 28.
The candidates have submitted biographies and candidate statements, which appear on the following pages. Additional information about the candidates will appear in the June, July/August and September issues of the Monitor, in which they will answer questions on issues of concern to APA members.
