PsycVIDEO™ database to set psychology in motion

To help APA members tap the power of motion pictures to bring abstract concepts to life, APA's PsycINFO unit has developed a new electronic resource for locating video and multimedia productions relevant to psychology.

PsycVIDEO™, scheduled for release in January as part of the Premium Access Package on APA's Online Member Services Web site (members.apa.org), is a searchable database summarizing nearly 2,000 productions with psychological content. The citations also include contact information for distributors. Among the types of videos covered are:

• Educational films on a variety of psychological and behavioral topics.

• Documentaries.

• Biographical and autobiographical films about important individuals in the history of psychology.

• Training films that teach therapeutic techniques to practitioners or students in clinical areas.

The database is designed to be useful to audiences such as:

• Instructors looking for audiovisual supplements to course content.

• Students and faculty in psychology departments or professional schools.

• Practitioners seeking to stay current with contemporary psychotherapeutic methods.

• Corporate, consultant and school psychologists who want resources that help communicate psychological concepts to their clientele.

Titles range from The Behaving Brain, a neuropsychological lecture film, to Bingo: You Betcha!, a documentary examining the subculture of bingo and underlying issues of compulsive gambling.

To include PsycVIDEO™ among your 2001 APA Electronic Product selections, look for the Premium Access Package on your annual Member Journal Order Form, which was mailed to APA members in October.

For general questions about the database, contact the PsycINFO User Services department toll-free at (800) 374-2722.
