Like the Web itself, APA's Web site (www.apa.org) is growing, with new services and features being added continually. The Monitor has started this column to help keep members abreast of the many developments of APA's electronic services. So visit here each month to find the latest news on what's happening at APA Online.
Discussion board for students
APA Online has expanded its service to students by adding a discussion board to its popular student site. This new service will give students in psychology the opportunity to share their thoughts on issues that uniquely affect them. APA received feedback from students that they often find it difficult to get advice on how to make it through the student years. This discussion area now provides students with the ability to generate ideas with others struggling with the same issues.
The discussion board provides forums on such critical student topics as education, funding and internships. Within each of these forums, a rotating series of discussion topics is offered.
Sample discussions include:
* What kinds of resources exist for funding tuition and research?
* What are the advantages and disadvantages of the various degrees available in psychology?
* If students have a bad internship experience, are there ways of making it more positive?
The discussion forum is located at APA's student page at www.psycstudents.com/forums.
APA's 2001 Convention site
Although APA's 2001 Annual Convention is a long way away--Aug. 2428, in San Francisco--planning for it began even before the 2000 APA Convention wrapped up. To make the planning process easier, APA has posted the 2001 APA Convention Web site. In previous years, the convention Web site was put up six months before the convention date. Now, information will be posted as it develops. Currently, the 2001 Call for Programs is on the site, which includes information on submitting presentations and programs to APA's divisions. APA's 2001 Convention Site can be accessed from APA's home page, www.apa.org.
