"It was an amazing experience!" That was the comment heard most often from the more than 200 psychologists and graduate students returning from visits to the Capitol Hill offices of their senators or representatives following a daylong convention advocacy training workshop. APA's Public Policy Office (PPO) conducted the training in collaboration with the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students. Led by the Education PPO staff, workshop participants gained valuable advocacy skills through interactive exercises and role-playing sessions. Once they honed their messages regarding psychology's interests, they encouraged members of Congress to support the Bureau of Health Professions reauthorization, including funding for the Graduate Psychology Education Program; the National Institutes of Health reauthorization; and health-disparities legislation.
