VOLUME 30, NUMBER 10 November 1999 The latest at APA's Web Site APA has redesigned its Web Site to be more user-friendly. Visitors to the main page can now choose between three different corridors: * One for psychologists provides information about joining APA and its divisions, attending its Annual Convention and signing up for member services such as PsycInfo. * Another for the public and media includes information on topics such as health care, depression, anxiety and eating disorders. * A third option for students offers the lowdown on career and internship opportunities, college summer programs and graduate schools.
There's also a new, easy-to-follow map of the site at Other helpful web sites NIOSH Stress at Work (www.cdc.gov/niosh/stress99.html) This site offers a summary of information presented at the March 1999 "Work, Stress and Health" conference, a joint project of APA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Among the conclusions is that the psychological demands of work and the risk of job stress have grown in response to increasingly leaner and more flexible production and employment practices. However, research on work organization and health has failed to keep pace with these changes in the conditions of work. Brainnet (www.brainnet.org) This site provides information on advances in brain research and related literature, conferences and news. The National Foundation for Brain Research and other organizations founded the site in honor of the congressionally declared "Decade of the Brain." A major focus is curing and treating neurological and mental disorders. The site also links relevant players--health agencies, managed-care organizations, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, clinical providers, employers, insurers, patients and caregivers-through web discussion groups. Cognitive and Psychological Sciences on the Internet (www-psych.stanford.edu/cogsci.html) Visit this site for comprehensive listings and links to psychology-related academic programs, journals and newsletters, conferences and discussion groups. The index is a joint venture of the psychology departments of Stanford and Essex Universities. It also features links to free psychological tools and software as well as the Virtual Library of Cognitive Science, which features professional and scientific activity in that area.
