At the Practice Directorate Town Hall meeting at APA's 2002 Annual Convention in Chicago, attendees viewed a condensed version of "Aftermath: The Road to Resilience," a one-hour documentary coproduced by APA and the Discovery Health Channel that aired on Aug. 29 and Sept. 11.

"It's fitting that we have a partnership with APA," said Bob Reid, Discovery Health Channel's senior vice president and general manager. "It enables us to use television as a tool to deal with the lingering effects of the attacks. Our sense of peace was shattered. People were seeking answers and still are." He went on, "We have a commitment to help break down barriers and eliminate the stigma of mental illness. Through education and information, we can foster empathy and better care."

APA's Public Education Campaign has created a companion resilience education program for members to use in their communities. On Sept. 9 in Bethesda, Md., more than 150 people--including Reid and Christine Fisher, who lost her husband in the Sept 11 attack on the Pentagon, as well as psychologists Russ Newman, PhD, JD, APA's executive director for practice, and Mary K.
