APA's Publications and Communications Office has appointed publishing executive Susan J.A. Harris to head up its journals program.

Harris is the former executive publisher for Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, where she managed 32 society and 18 proprietary journals. As senior director of APA's journals program, she will oversee and fine-tune the production process and daily operations of APA's 45 journals and PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES databases.

"One of her first major tasks will be to direct a complete re-engineering of the production system to integrate headquarters operations with the field editors' offices and facilitate electronic publishing," says APA's deputy publisher Susan Knapp. Harris will also work closely with those APA divisions and other behavioral science societies whose journals are published by APA to expand the publishing program and improve the services available to these groups. In addition, she will represent APA at publishing industry meetings such as the Society for Scholarly Publishing and the Council of Science Editors.
