Abeles recognized for underscoring aging issues
APA's Committee on Aging (CONA) presented its first-ever Award for the Advancement of Psychology and Aging to APA's 1997 President Norman Abeles, PhD. Abeles was honored for his longtime contributions to research, practice and education in geropsychology. Abeles's focus on geropsychology during his APA presidency led to the establishment of APA's Committee on Aging and Office on Aging. He is well-known for his research on memory and depression in older adults and psychotherapy and older adults. The award will be presented annually at APA's Annual Convention to recognize psychologists who make significant contributions to geropsychology.
