  Psychologist to head NCI division

Robert T. Croyle, PhD, has been appointed director of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences at the National Cancer Institute, one of the National Institutes of Health. Croyle became acting division director in late 2002, and previously was the division's associate director for behavioral research.

According to NCI Director Andrew C. von Eschenbach, MD, Croyle helped build the division's Behavioral Research Program, which works on issues such as transdisciplinary science, genetic testing, genetic epidemiology and health promotion. Before joining NCI, Croyle was an assistant professor at the University of Washington and at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. Croyle's other positions include professor of psychology and member of the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah and visiting investigator at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.
