APA's Board of Directors serves as the executive committee of the Council of Representatives and includes 11 voting members--the APA president, president-elect and past-president, who are elected by APA members, and the recording secretary, treasurer and six members-at-large, who are elected by the previous year's Council of Representatives. The board also includes two nonvoting members--APA's CEO and the chair of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students.

As the administrative agent of council, the Board of Directors supervises the work of APA's CEO and exercises general supervision over the affairs of the association. Between the annual meetings of the Council of Representatives, the board has the authority to take actions necessary to conduct the association's affairs in accordance with its bylaws and the policies of council. The board currently meets six times per year.
