* What social and public interest issues will you emphasize during your term and what specific plans do you have for achieving your objectives?
I believe we need to expand psychological services for homeless adults, children and families. We must work with APA committees, divisions, state and provincial psychological associations and other professional organizations to develop a volunteer network of providers. This will also require us to lobby federal, state and private interests for increased funding for psychological services for the homeless.
In addition, we need to expand the public education campaign for the role of psychologists in prevention of health and social problems.
* What do you consider to be the central issue confronting undergraduate education (high school, two-year and four-year college levels) in psychology in the next 10 years?
We need more psychology instructors at these levels to increase exposure and interest of students in the field. APA can develop better instructional materials using new technologies and distance-learning methods to increase interest. APA should push for implementation of the high school psychology guidelines passed by the Board of Educational Affairs and Council of Representatives.
