APA seeks nominees for new Committee on Early Career Psychologists
Print version: page 86

All APA boards, committees, divisions, mem-bers, and state, provincial and territorial psychological associations may submit nominations for the newly created Committee on Early Career Psychologists.

Set to form in January 2005, the committee will consist of six APA members who have earned their doctorates within the last seven years. Committee members will represent six slates: education, practice, public interest, science, and division and state, provincial and territorial early-career programs. APA seeks nominations for all six slates. The Board of Directors will appoint committee members for staggered three-year terms, and the six original members will determine their tenures at the committee's first meeting in March 2005. The committee will meet twice per year in or around Washington, D.C. APA will reimburse meeting expenses.

The committee's mission is to:

* Research, organize and institute initiatives to increase both the number of student affiliate members transitioning to full member status and the number of early-career psychologists joining the association for the first time.

* Help develop and implement the Membership Committee's recruitment and retention initiatives.

* Develop new and improve existing ways to increase early-career psychologists' participation in APA divisions and state, provincial and territorial psychological associations.

* Promote greater awareness of--and work to expand--APA membership benefits for early-careerpsychologists.

* Represent the interests and concerns of early-career psychologists throughout APA governance and the APA's Central Office.

Nominations should include a current curriculum vitae and a statement of interest indicating the slate the nominee is applying for. Self-nominations are encouraged. Nomination materials are due Sept. 27. Send nominations to: Committee on Early Career Psychologists, c/o Paul Donnelly at the APA address; e-mail: pdonnelly@apa.org.
