IN BRIEF Attention students and researchers: Having trouble accessing APA's PsycARTICLES or other databases? You may need to log into the database differently. Some students and researchers have complained that when they try to access resources from PubMed Central or APA journals from their homes or other off-campus sites, they are unable to get the content, even though they know their university has paid for their use. Here's the problem: To get to any content that the university has paid for, the user must be going through the university system. Here's the solution: To access PsycARTICLES and APA journal articles, members must log on to their university system, either on campus or through the university's proxy server, then search. That enables APA or a third-party vendor to recognize that the institution has paid for access to APA's electronic content and grant full access. The glitch has been a particular problem for neuropsychology researchers, who start their research at PubMed Central, not at PsycARTICLES, says Linda Spear, PhD, of Binghamton University. "Finding ways to get people to this electronic database site is important in terms of making psychological research more generally known to and utilized by the broad, interdisciplinary community of researchers in neuroscience and neuropsychology," Spear says.
