CALL FOR PAPERS

Narratives In and About Relationships, a special issue of the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships, will be dedicated to research using narrative methodologies to study interpersonal relationships. The special issue will highlight recent methodological advances in the use of narratives to understand how individuals find relevance in didaetic and group relationships (including family relationships), which in turn may be related to relational well-being. Authors must clearly address the theoretical rationale for using narratives to study relationships as well as provide substantial documentation of their methods. Preference will be given to empirical studies, although theoretical papers may be considered. Manuscripts will be peer-reviewed, consistent with policies of the journal. The American Association of Suicidology (AAS) will be holding its 33rd annual conference in Los Angeles, April 12-15. The American Philosophical Society (APS) announces the general research grant program covering all areas of scholarly knowledge except those in which support by government or corporate enterprise is more appropriate. The program does not accept proposals in journalistic writing; for the preparation of textbooks, or teaching aids; or the work of creative and performing artists. Maximum award is $6,000. Deadlines are Oct. 1 and Dec. 1. APS also announces the sabbatical fellowship for the humanities and social sciences, which covers humanities and social sciences for the midcareer faculty of universities and four-year colleges in the United States who have been granted a sabbatical/research year, but for whom financial support from the parent institution is available for only part of the year. Candidates must not have had a financially supported leave during the past three years. Award is $40,000 with a deadline of Nov. 1. The Society for the Teaching of Psychology, (Div. 2), of the American Psychological Association announces its 2000 program of awards for outstanding teachers of psychology. Teaching awards of $600 and a plaque are bestowed for outstanding performances in each of four environments:

  • Two-year colleges
  • High Schools (Moffett Memorial Award)
  • Graduate Student (McKeachie Early Career Award)
