DIVISION NEWS

Div. 41 (American Psychology-Law Society)

Div. 41 invites papers, posters and symposia presentations for the AP-LS 2000 biennial conference, to be held March 6-13 in New Orleans. The division welcomes proposals based on all areas of psychology and law, especially submissions relating to new and emerging ideas. Div. 41 encourages papers written or co-written by students.

To submit a proposal, send:

  • Five copies of a 150-word abstract and a 1,500-word summary for anonymous review.

  • A self-addressed envelope with primary author's address.

  • A cover sheet with name, affiliation, address, e-mail, phone and fax number of primary author, as well as names and affiliations of co-authors.

  • A statement identifying the entry as a paper, poster or symposium and whether the authors would consider the submission for a poster if it's not accepted as a paper.

    In other Div. 41 news, Law and Human Behavior, the division's official journal, is dedicating a special issue to children and families. Topics for consideration include:

  • A report on the latest legal issues associated with children and families.

  • An analysis of empirical research or investigations of legal issues relevant to children and families. These examples may involve demonstrating how research can inform forensics practice or public policy, suggestions for the direction of future research or the affects of the legal system on children and families.

    Div. 51 (Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity)

    Div. 51 announces a call for papers for the division's new journal, Psychology of Men and Masculinity (PMM). The first volume will be published in January 2000. PMM will explore a variety of issues from research, theory and clinical standpoints.

    Topics include, but are not limited to, fatherhood, gender role strain, stress and conflict, sexuality and sexual orientation, masculinity ideology, victimization of male children and adults and biological aspects of male development.

    PMM will only accept unpublished manuscripts and manuscripts not being reviewed by another journal. Send four copies of either a 2,500-word brief report or a 7,500-word manuscript to: David Lisak, PhD, Editor, PMM, Department of Psychology, University of Massachusetts, Boston, 100 Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, MA 02125-3393.

    DIVISION AWARDS

    Div. 2 (Society for the Teaching of Psychology)

    Div. 2 seeks nominations for its year 2000 annual teaching awards program to honor an outstanding teacher of psychology in one of four categories: high school (Moffett Memorial Teaching Award); two-year college and four-year college/university (Robert S. Daniel Award); graduate school (McKeachie Early Career Award). The deadline for nominations and supporting documentation is Jan. 3.

    Div. 12, Section 1 (Section on Clinical Child)

    Div. 12, Section 1 is accepting nominations for the Annual Student Research Award Competition, which recognizes a graduate student who has conducted outstanding empirical research in clinical child psychology.

    The winner receives $1,000 and an invitation to present a paper to the 2000 APA Annual Convention in Washington, D.C., and is encouraged to submit the paper to the Journal of Clinical Child Psychology.

    The pre- or postdoctoral candidate must be within two years of completing his or her degree and must be the primary author of the paper. The candidate must have finished the research as a student.

    To apply for the award, send:

  • A cover letter verifying the candidate's student status at the time of the research.

  • A letter from a research advisor or professor explaining the student's significant contributions to the project.

    All submissions must be received by Nov. 1. Nominees do not have to be members of Div. 12, Section 1.
