The APA Office of Continuing Education in Psychology’s (CEP) is now webcasting its Clinician’s Corner workshops live. These 3-hour workshops feature leading practitioners and scholars working in key areas of professional practice. All workshops include CE credits and will be held at the APA Building, 750 First St. NE, Washington, D.C. or online through a live webcast.

New Concepts in Motivational Interviewing: Advancing Your Skills

With Motivational Interviewing evolving, this workshop will introduce participants to fresh concepts and new describers for the evidence-based practice. Participants will have an opportunity in this fast-paced workshop to practice skills:  facilitating engagement, focusing, evoking and planning, as well as addressing and diminishing discord.

This workshop is designed to help you:

  1. Address discord in the counseling exchange,

  2. Identify possibilities for enhancing engagement, and 

  3. Identify possibilities for evoking change talk.

About the presenter: Ali Hall (JD) is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and an independent consultant and trainer. She has designed and facilitated over three hundred Motivational Interviewing (MI) workshops for behavioral health clinicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, program administrators, educators, social and child welfare workers, health care providers, health coaches, and criminal/juvenile justice professionals, and provides training for trainers in evidence-based practices. She is a training associate for the Michigan-based, Center for Strength-Based Strategies as well as the Behavioral Healthcare Institute of the University of North Carolina School of Social Work. She also provides MI coding and skill development coaching, and provides consultation to systems for effective MI implementation.  She spent her undergraduate years at Occidental College in Los Angeles, and completed her graduate studies at the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University as well as the Cornell University School of Law.
