American Psychological Association. (2015, March 25). Motivation Science journal to be published by APA [Press release]. https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2015/03/motivation-science

The American Psychological Association has announced that it will publish Motivation Science, a new interdisciplinary journal featuring significant contributions to the study of motivation. The journal will publish papers on diverse approaches to the science of motivation, including studies from all subfields of psychology, as well as the fields of cognitive science, economics, sociology, management science, organizational science, neuroscience and political science. The inaugural issue will become available this spring.

The journal will be edited by Deborah A. Prentice, PhD, a leading social psychologist. Prentice is the Alexander Stewart 1886 professor of psychology & public affairs and dean of the faculty at Princeton University. According to Prentice, the time is right for a new journal that is truly interdisciplinary in its scope. Describing Motivation Science, she writes: “This is an exciting moment in the study of motivation. A proliferation of theories, paradigms, and especially empirical findings, has given the field a heady sense of progress and momentum. Growing interest in research on motivation among behavioral scientists, applied professionals and policymakers alike has provided an infusion of energy. The result has been a lot of activity, but without much common purpose or integration. Motivation Science aims to provide this integration and purpose.” The new journal intends to be a catalyst for motivation science as a whole, Prentice notes.

Motivation Science is a publication of the Society for the Study of Motivation. The society’s goals include providing a forum for the exchange of scientific information, fostering discussion of new ideas and findings on motivation among researchers and encouraging exchange and collaboration in research.

Prospective contributors and subscribers are encouraged to visit the journal’s APA home page. More information on the Society for the Study of Motivationopens in new window can be found on its website.
