Dr. Anderson: Hi, everyone, and welcome to “This Is Psychology.”

I’m Dr. Norman Anderson, CEO of the American Psychological Association, the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States, and the world's largest association of psychologists.

The mission of the APA is to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people’s lives.

This is the first in a series of podcasts, produced by APA, to tell you about some of the latest, most exciting and interesting developments in psychology.

But first, let’s define psychology. Simply put, psychology is the study of the mind and behavior. The discipline embraces all aspects of the human experience – from the functions of the brain, to the actions of nations; from child development, to the care of the elderly. In every conceivable setting, from scientific research centers, to the health care setting, to the workplace the understanding of behavior is the enterprise of psychologists.

In these podcasts, I will report to you on some of the most intriguing psychological research being published right now. This information will demonstrate the depth and breadth of the research being conducted by psychologists around the world. I hope you will find this information as fascinating and illuminating as I do, because psychology touches everything we do as humans.
