Cosponsored by
American Psychological Association (APA)
American Bar Association Section of Family Law (ABA)

This APA-ABA National Conference is organized around three primary themes:
• The status of marriage, separation, divorce, parenting, and custody in the United
States today
• Legal and psychological issues relevant to contested custody cases
• Effective legal and psychological interventions for families

Start each day with the plenary presentation and attend seminars that focus on your specific interests presented by judges, psychologists, and lawyers. Seminar topics include, but are not limited to:
• Representation of children’s interests in matters of disputed custody
• Admissibility of expert testimony
• Parent coordination
• Effective interventions with high-conflict families
• Considering allegations of abuse and neglect in contested cases
• Crafting visitation, access, and parenting time
• Alternatives to the adversarial process

Other planned activities include a mock trial involving expert psychological
testimony, followed by responses from judges and the audience; and a number of occasions for networking, such as the April 30th welcome reception, informal “dine-arounds” at favorite Chicago restaurants, and a ticketed social event.
Continuing education credits will be offered.

Based on the 1997 Los Angeles APA-ABA National Conference on the same
topic, the cosponsors expect a sell-out attendance of more than 700 attorneys and psychologists from around the country.
