Join The Public Interest Directorate Network!

The Public Interest Directorate invites you to join the New Public Interest Directorate Network.

by Susan Houston

The Public Interest Directorate is developing a Network comprised of representatives from divisions, state associations, ethnic minority psychological associations, regional psychological associations, former members of relevant governance groups, and other groups within organized psychology. The primary purpose of the Network will be to enhance communication and create opportunities for collaboration among organizations and groups interested in bringing what we know from psychology to address public interest issues. Broad and ongoing communication is essential for achieving the utmost success in responding to our commitment to apply the science and practice of psychology to the fundamental problems of human welfare and social justice and the promotion of equitable and just treatment of all segments of society through education, training and public policy.

NETWORK INPUT IS CRITICAL:

Directorate staff will rely on the Network for ongoing monitoring of issues that relate to public interest areas of focus throughout all areas within psychology and will ask Network representatives to share information, concerns, and suggestions with the directorate and report back to their groups on results of our communications.
For now, sharing information between PI and network members will take place through listserv, maintained by APA, and an annual meeting to take place during the APA convention.

PUBLIC INTEREST’S COMMITMENT:

The Public Interest Directorate is committed to keeping Network members informed of its work and providing opportunities for groups with membership representation to help strengthen, enhance, and in some cases guide our efforts. Our goals for the Network also include responding to issues raised by Network members, soliciting input on issues that come before the directorate and, when appropriate, the Board for the Advancement of Psychology in the Public Interest (BAPPI), and creating avenues for Network members to become active in APA governance. We hope to achieve a vigorous, active, and mutually productive exchange of information.
