Public Interest Government Relations Office staff, with the Disability Issues Office and Division 33 (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), provided comments regarding clarifications and new requirements to implement the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000, supporting expanding the definition of abuse to enable better investigation into practices that may be harmful to people with developmental disabilities but that previously may not have been defined as abuse and restoring elements in the existing “governance and administration” section to ensure an appropriate regulatory definition of “interdisciplinary education, research, and public service unit of universities” to protect future disability-specific research, training, and education provided by the University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disability.
